Pregnancy Tests- How early is too early and how high is the accuracy?

Can I take a pregnancy test now? It has been 16 days since I have had sex and it is 7 days before my period is due but I am usually early.

It depends. If you take a test that has a high enough accuracy, there is a definite possibility that you would be able to get a correct reading. Pregnancy Tests give a positive or negative reading based on the presence of a hormone produced During Pregnancy. Your body begins giving off this hormone as soon as the egg implants itself, but the levels aren’t often high enough to be detected until much later.

A more sensitive test would be able to detect lower levels of the hormone, therefore, it would be able to tell you earlier. A less sensitive test requires a much higher level of hormones, an so cannot detect pregnancy until later, when the hormones have built up more.
