How to use Pregnancy test for detecting pregnancy
Pregnancy Tests are the best way to monitor the Early Pregnancy after the egg fertilization takes place. The level of human Chorionic Gonadotropin is determined by the pregnancy test strips which are easily available in the market. These are determined in the urine specimen. If the levels of hCG levels are subsequently risen, the pregnancy is proved. However, one should wait till the missed period.
Using Pregnancy Test Strips
1. The sealed pack must be opened and the test kit must be removed from the pouch. Now the urine sample must be collected in a small unused cup
2. The first morning urine will surely give the best results while detecting pregnancy. The concentration of hCG in the urine is highest in the morning.
3. The pregnancy strips must be held vertically so that the arrows point down. It should be held towards the specimen of the urine.
4. The test strip must be carefully dipped into the sample of urine for 3 seconds. If the dye doesn’t reach the result area, it must be dipped again as per the instructions.
5. The test strip must be laid on a flat surface. Then wait for the color band for appearing. The time that it takes depends directly on the amount of hCG contained in the urine specimen. One can observe a positive result within 40 seconds. However, if the result is negative, one may have to wait for five more minutes.
6. Before the test results are read, one must be very clear of the reaction time for the time result. However, there is a variation of reaction time from test to test. It should be followed in accordance with the instructions given by the manufacturer.
Interpreting Test Results
1. Positive test result – when there is positivity of the test, there is an appearance of two distinct bands in test and control regions. There may be a variation in the color intensity of the test band. This is mainly due to the levels of hCG and different stages.
2. Negative test result – Negative pregnancy result is indicated by a single band. When there is an appearance of only one color band in the control region or no band, pregnancy is not detected.
3. Invalid test result – Sometimes it happens that the bands don’t appear at all either in the test area or the control area. this may happen due to low levels of hCG or the insufficient volume of urine sample. The conduction of this test can be done again after 72 hours.
