Ivf Pregnancy Success Stories
Couples having trouble conceiving often seek in vitro fertilization, or IVF, pregnancy success stories before making the decision of whether to give the treatment a try themselves. In vitro fertilization is the most well-known of all of the assisted reproductive technologies.
However, despite its fame, it still has only a 10 to 20% success rate in many cases. Some data points to higher rates of success, and some lower, so speaking with a qualified fertility doctor is encouraged.
There are several factors that go into determining if the treatment is a success. The age of the woman is often a big factor. Younger women tend to have greater success rates than women who are older, but exceptions have been recorded. The woman’s ability to carry a child is also an important factor in determining if the procedure is a success.
While there are certainly stories of couples that have tried many times to get pregnant via in vitro fertilization and failed, there are also IVF pregnancy success stories that involve couples who spend years aiming at success before they finally achieve their goal.
Each couple’s case may be different and varying factors may be considered in determining the chances of success for each couple.
The procedure is performed by extracting eggs from the woman and using those to combine with sperm and a nutrient medium in a glass dish.
Once an embryo forms and is ready to be transferred, it is implanted in the woman’s uterus where she is expected to carry it to term. The risk of multiple births is often higher with in vitro fertilization versus natural conception, as more than one embryo is often used in treatment, so this is something to consider as well.
The first step in determining if IVF is the best path to take is to speak with a fertility specialist. Couples may then work on creating their own IVF pregnancy success story.
