How to Pamper Your Baby with the Best Diet in Pregnancy part 4
The best Diet In Pregnancy answers more than the question of what should I eat During Pregnancy. It also looks at the diet for a healthy pregnancy, post-partum recovery and the development of a healthy baby. This means knowing more than simply the answer to, “What should I eat during pregnancy?”
Organic vs. Ordinary
The interest in organic foods has been very high in recent media stories. Some of these stories outline the horrors of vegetables covered in pesticides and their detrimental affect on children. Organic foods free of such chemicals are hailed as nothing short of heroic. Other press is not so favorable, claiming organic labels are being used as an excuse to charge higher prices for the same product.
With this kind of conflicting information, the consumer can be left confused. Pregnant women, however, owe it to themselves and their babies to find out the truth. Diet in pregnancy is so important; eating the right foods from the best producers makes all the difference.
The bottom line is this: organic produce and organic grass fed meats have been proven over and over to contain higher nutritive content and be free of harmful chemicals. Farms that wish to lay claim to an organic label have to pass a stringent qualification process, which can take up to seven years or longer.
Foods labeled only as “natural” or “whole” pass no such test and follow no such rules. The FDA does not place any rules as to the use of these alluring label phrases. Only by purchasing foods labeled organic are you certain to get what you really want: foods harvested without chemical additives, excessive processing, genetic engineering and many other substances known to have detrimental health implications.
Hydration
Most women know that diet in pregnancy is not all about food but drinks as well. It is also a well known fact that alcohol should be eliminated and other drinks limited. Yet there is a double standard.
The woman who shuns coffee sees nothing wrong with a diet soda, yet diet drinks during pregnancy can be just as harmful. The artificial sweeteners in low calorie drinks are not healthy. The FDA has a list of 98 known health concerns connected directly to aspartame alone.
Drinking diet drinks during pregnancy is not worth the risk. There are too many questions yet to be answered. Erring on the side of caution is best.
In the long run, knowing you did all you could to help your baby grow and develop in a safe environment is worth any price.
